Sunny Top Ten: Waterloo Sunset (#6)

Howdy! Well, heck, I slept until noon again today. I don't know why I'm sleeping late on the weekend...it's not like I'm working or anything.
Instead of going out into the blast furnace I'm staying here, munching on grapes, and giving you another song with "sun" in the title.
#6: Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks
Simply sublime. Or, as Pete Townshend of The Who called it, "A masterpiece." Think of all the songs you KNOW in this world (because you most likely don't know this one)...and this one was #14 on Rolling Stone's list of "500 Greatest Songs."
So...why don't you know this piece of brilliance? If you're in America, the answer is simple: it wasn't released as a single here.
For the rest of the world, where it was a top ten song, there were a lot of other Kinks songs that drowned out this one. (And, while people like Def Leppard and David Bowie did cover this, Van Halen did NOT.
)
This is a song about being content where someone is, even if it's near a "dirty old river." It could be about a grocery list, and it'd still be amazing.

I usually don’t run into other myLotters deep in the music basement.

@FourWalls I see that more musical greats bit the dust. Will it ever end?

Lots of British bands wanted to sound like the Beatles then.

It's one of those long-forgotten tunes of theirs.
