An Interesting Start to a New Adventure

Today is the first day of a new adventure. It started interestingly, to say the least. Instead of heading to an “exotic” location like a battlefield or an old train depot
I spent the day with my family in a hospital waiting room in Lexington. My grand-nephew had surgery.
He’s fine, in pain from the gas they pumped into him, but recovering nicely. My family was together most of the afternoon, being the goofballs that we are.
So…where AM I going? Do you think I know?
The one place I definitely have my eye on is the museum for the Sultana, a ship that sank in 1865 (not a typo) and resulted in the worst watercraft disaster in American history. The death toll ranged between 1,100 and 1,547. It was a steamboat designed to hold less than 400 people, but it was crowded with soldiers who’d been released from Confederate prisoner camps at the end of the Civil War. It’s a tragic tale, and I’ll bore you with it if and when I get to the museum.
Meanwhile, enjoy this picture. I took this as a storm was coming in. What a great contrast, huh? A lovely sunset in the background, and a shelf cloud bringing in a thunderstorm in the foreground.
Y’all have a great evening!

Great picture, is that a giant McDonald's tower that I see in the distance?
I never heard about the Sultana, interesting story. I remember the interesting story I learned in Florida about Nuestra Señora de Atocha Spanish galleon that sank near the Florida Keys in 1622.

Yes, the guiding light….a McDonald’s sign.
There are so many ship disasters that most people have never heard of. Even the Edmund Fitzgerald wasn’t the worst Great Lakes disaster…but we remember it because of Gordon Lightfoot’s song.

@FourWalls - You cannot miss that guiding light!
Often songs are good to remember events.

I read about the Sultana Museum when they were putting it together, but it wasn't opened yet back then. I do want to see that, too.
Your picture is lovely!

We had a beautiful rainbow a few days ago in the early evening. Of course I was driving and couldn’t get a picture of it!

We had three people in my unit pass out during boot camp graduation in Orlando. We were not allowed to double time (run) after the temperature reached 75 because of the heat and humidity.

When are you coming back down here? If we plan it right maybe we can get Jeff to come to Chuys or meet us there.

Great picture. That's a horrible ship disaster. I'm glad your grand-nephew is doing well. I'm ready to go when you are.

I have to find someplace cool first. Nothing on the weather map but orange and pink for heat and excessive heat.
