It's in the Crock Pot

So, there's this fantastic pot roast dish I like to make, but of course, it's a slightly modified recipe from the original one. Porwest follow the rules? Are you kidding me? I put in a 3 pound plus chuck roast, then put half a packet of brown gravy powder mix and half the packet of Ranch dressing powder mix, some onions, potatoes, and carrots and then added in the rest of the brown gravy mix and Ranch dressing mix. Cover and cook on low in the crock pot for about 8 hours or more. The picture doesn't do it justice, of course. But it's just the raw mix. So, what are some of the modifications? They aren't many. For one thing, it calls for slices of butter to be put on the meat all around it. It also calls for au jus mix instead of brown gravy. It also calls for peppercinis. I don't like peppercinis, so I leave those out. I don't have much use for au jus, and brown gravy is more useful and practical, and I always have some on hand, so I use that instead and it works out just fine. It doesn't need the butter. Normally you don't put in carrots and potatoes, but I like them cooked with a pot roast, so I just add them in. The original dish is called a Mississippi Pot Roast, but I just call it good eats. What's going on your dinner table tonight?

@porwest There is a lot to be said for that . And a lot of the time food we cook ourselves is far better than a takeaway

@Ineeddentures I will make an exception for the Chinese and pizza. I can do those well, but not as well the original.

@LindaOHio That makes me think...do you have a crock pot and can you use it? You could make some amazing meals in that.

I always throw in potatoes and carrots. It's a given here! We had brats wrapped in bread. Quick and easy!

@porwest I also don't get why buns are more expensive than a loaf of bread. There is more volume to a loaf of bread. Yet, a package of 8 buns costs more than a loaf of bread. Go figure.

We've done that too. You don't always need buns, and that's just...good eats. But yeah, there's something about the potatoes and carrots slow cooked with the meat. Yummy stuff.

@kareng I guess they know you will buy them even if you have bread depending on what you are using them for. lol Plus, I would also assume more loaves of bread are sold than buns. This is all conjecture on my part, of course.

That does sound good. I laid out sausage and hamburger to thaw this morning. I want some pasta again. I haven't decided what kind of pasta yet.

Pot roasts are a great meal. I like the sound of yours. Hopefully our son will be able to make himself one one day.

Smoked sausage is very good. I still have something for lunch and then of course our main meal at dinner time.
