Making friends with a possum

We arrived home a few hours ago after spending two nights camping with our son who is visiting from Ireland. Vince’s brother also came with us. He and our son slept in tents and we were in our motor-home. We had power the first night but the second night we camped at Dryandra, which borders the farm where I grew up. It was bitterly cold in our terms but we managed to stay warm and enjoyed ourselves. The photo shows a friendly possum that came to visit. Our possums are not a bit like American opossums. My night photos are not worth putting up as you can see but hopefully, in a day or two, I’ll be able to share some of Vince’s.

Yes, your possums are cute. Our opossums are butt-ugly. Glad you’re home and had a good time!

Talking about cold it reminded me how we were woken up by the group to spend time with them while both of us were cuddled in blankets. It was in Kashmir and we were a part of the conducted tour .

We have two types - brushtail and ringtail. The lower part of their tail of the latter is white and not bushy like the brushtails. I've lost a lot of my own photos but this is from Wikimedia, courtesy John Gardner.

I don't find yours very pretty. I'm amazed how the Mums carry their babies. They seem to have them hanging off all over their bodies.

@LindaOHio That's a pity you couldn't publish the photo but I understand. It's probably a huge fine if you get it wrong.

@JudyEv I found a cute picture for you; but it said to recognize the photographer; so I thought I'd better pass it up.

I am so glad that you managed to stay warm and enjoy yourselves I try to make sure Yvonne stays warm and that we enjoy ourselves when we go camping. I feel it's my duty. Do those possums have a lot of contact with humans Judy?

The ones around the camp-site do and they turn up once it's dark and fossick around for any food that might be available.

@JudyEv I would be feeding them in that case. I couldn't help myself. I would want to make friends with them

Friend"s brother"s family had a possum as a pet for a few years. It was really attached to their oldest son.

My mother had possums as pets too but through the night it would romp through the ceiling and keep them all awake.

It hung around for a long time. Vince hasn't processed his photos yet but they'll be nicer than mine.
