Our kitchen door

We have kept the kitchen door locked as we cannot close it once we open it The rain is the culprit. It is strange as all our doors excepting the entrance and that leading to the terrace are all PVC. I thought only wood expands with moisture It is not convenient for us now to access the back of our property as we have to do it through our main door, The maid finds it difficult as a lot of what is happening in our household is at the back. Will have to put up with it until the rain stops

uPVC doors can also swell if they get hot from the sun or the temperature fluctuates a lot. It shouldn't be swelling with rain or moisture. I have a metal door at the front of the house and a wooden door with a large window in it at the back of the house. We don't use the back door because the steps from the house down to the yard are steep and have no handrail on them. I have fallen down them once and won't risk using them anymore.

Here it happens only when it rains Without a railing even I would not risk climbing or getting down.

@DaddyEvil You will have a better life with thart as I know what it is not to be able to access where you can get some happy moments. I do not go up to the terrace as often as I used to before

@allknowing Pretty has applied for a government grant to put new wooden steps from the back door to the ground with a sturdy wooden railing. We just have to wait to get approval before hiring someone to build the new steps. I qualify for the grant since I am disabled. It's similar to the grant we got to weatherize the house from summer heat and winter cold. I qualified for that because I'm disabled, too.

Metallic door are the best especially the stainless steel. We have them on our front as well as back main doors and never had an issue with them in any season.

PVC tends to expand and contract more than wood due to temperature changes and humidity.

I picked this up from the Net which I asked a question No, PVC doors are highly resistant to moisture and are not significantly affected by it. Unlike wood, PVC doors do not warp, rot, or swell when exposed to water or high humidity. Their moisture resistance makes them a suitable choice for areas prone to dampness, like bathrooms and basements.

@allknowing Well, weird what that site declared, because PVC doors were the first to swell when exposed to hot temperatures. Our entry wood door in Switzerland was perfect when we bought the house and still perfect when we sold it 26 years later.

Doors can be troublesome. Our front door won't fasten properly and will blow open on a windy day so then we have to keep it locked.

@allknowing Depends on the heat. Wouldn't the air in them expand in the temperatures you get there
