A Major Small win for me

HI Mylotter friends. Sorry I haven't been posting much in the past two weeks since I adopted my second and final cat, almost two weeks ago. And I'll do an upcoming cat introduction post on Wednesday afternoon. But I have other news to share with you. Though my interim manager at Goodwill quit last Sunday for some reason, and both our new assistant manager (met him, he seems nice) and manager (haven't met him yet) are training at another Goodwill outlet store location, I've took a bold move a week ago today. Though I haven't quit Goodwill and hope to do it this fall at this rate, I've asked our current temporary manager Aaron from the Green outlet store, if I can be cross-trained as a cashier, or apply internally. This happened at the same time, a fellow sales associate quit and moved this past weekend to Southern Ohio. This provided an opening for me. We all know, this was my goal since Day One at Goodwill. It was denied at my former manager Megan (even to be tagger/hanger) because I was slow for 1.5 years. Even when I was accommodated this April, I wanted to ask my current manager Anita before she quit in May, if I can learn cashiering. But when I mentioned it to HR, she said I have to wait until we would fully staffed. And that never happened at all. So I've asked last week if I could learn to be cross-trained, and I got an okay from it. I've texted Danielle (she said that's very exciting and hopes it goes well), and Lauri (she said yes, and she would let Raenell know, probably before our next meeting in 3 weeks). If I wanted to quit Goodwill, I wanted to end it on a high note. Yes I'm nervously excited about this chance. If it goes well, maybe in two weeks, I can add it to my resume and look for cashiering jobs in retail/food/grocery, or even as a retail sales associate. A week from today, I'll get my chance to be a fill-in cashier, when two of my co-worker friends would be cross-training me, while one of our cashiers will be on vacation. While I'm still running and pulling wares, I can step in for anyone for a bathroom/lunch break, vacation, called off sick, or for any other reason they won't be there for a day or a week. This is fair enough. If I do well, I could move up to the cashier to work the 10-2 pm shift or somewhere in between. I'll keep you posted, starting next week. As an update for Rowdy Beans, I've called Julie on Friday and talked to her son. Due to a family health emergency recently, and took a month off, it's been pushed back to December. So I'll keep looking for a job and hope to leave in early fall at this late with some cashiering experience. This is a Major celebratory small in for me going forward and on my way out to Goodwill. I'll stop by on Wednesday afternoon to check in with posts. If anyone has done any cashiering before any advice would be hugely appreciated! Thanks.

You will do fine at being a cashier. If you can operate a computer, you can do a cash register. Just smile and be your friendly self and it will all work out for you!
