Papa Oom Mow Mow

Now if somebody said Papa Oom Mow Mow to you, you would most likely inquire how much the person had to drink or if they had gotten a knock on their noggin. Well, today I got my ears full of this wonderful sound which is an interesting song, but who really knows what it means? “Papa Oom Mow Mow” was recorded by The Rivingtons in 1962. It was recorded as a novel, nonsensical doo-wop song. The band must have had so much fun with this song that it was followed up by two more, “Mama Oom Mow Mow (The Bird)” and “The Bird’s the Word.” Others also covered this song, even The Beach Boys in 1965. How many of you know this song? What do you think of it? How do you like them dancing in their monkey suits?

How fun! I haven't heard that in years. Many years. I wouldn't have wanted to be in those hot costumes for as long as the song ran.

Oh yes, I remember this song! Right up there with other silly titled 60's songs like "Wooly Bully and "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini."
