One needs courage to walk on a frozen river It could cut short the distance greatly but one must have courage to do it as one can encounter thin ice with the danger of drowning My friend's daughter who had an assigment in Moscow did have that experience and she sent me a photo which I cannot trace. If you get a chance would you dare or have you already? Image credit:https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kingston-Rhinecliff_Bridge_and_walkers_on_frozen_Hudson_River.jpg

I've never walked on a frozen river but on frozen ponds and a frozen lake, yes.

@allknowing True enough... I fell through thin ice on one of our ponds when I was a kid. I sneaked back into the house and changed clothes. Mom never guessed what happened. *shrug*

I did on a frozen lake, but a very short walk and I stayed very close to the shore.

I live in a place that it will never snow. When I had a travel to the snowy place, I would find it fun and I wouldn't realize the danger as well as the local people. I walked on the frozen rivers before and that's quite thick and solid. Actually I wouldn't even realize that it was a river

In Minnesota there are 'roads' that only exist in winter as they cross frozen lakes. The department for natural resources (DNR) officially announces when the roads are open and they are just like regular roads, traffic of all kinds use them. They make a lot of journeys much shorter than in summer!

I've never seen a frozen river and I probably wouldn't risk walking on one. You hear too many horror stories.
