Interesting About Pineapple and Rhubard

Pineapples were first introduced to Europe in the late 1400s. They were rare and expensive, a luxury only enjoyed by the rich. By the 1700s the fruit was expensive, valued at 60 to 80 pounds, or $17,000 to $23,000 in today's money. Most know rhubarb as being grown in the light of day, and in the spring. But there is a special variety that is harvested by candlelight in the depths of winter. In the early 1800s farmers in a 9 mile "Rhubard Triangle" of England's West Yorkshire found that moving rhubard plants indoor after the frost would trick the plants into thinking it was spring. This would reawaken the roots and force them to grow quickly in warm, dark sheds. They would go into a frenzy of growth to reach sunlight.

I did not grow up with rhubarb and have very little experience of it. I have one in a tub, but do not know what to do and when to harvest and all of that stuff.

When the stalks are red. You can make a sauce or pie. It's good if you like sour things.

I like both pineapples and rhubarb and I knew about the rhubarb triangle. I didn’t know the facts about the pineapple though. I do grow my own rhubarb in tubs in the garden.

We used to grow rhubard too. Haven't had any in a long time.
