My partner loves to read, and he often has several books on the go at once. Nowadays he might have one or two as digital versions which he reads on his phone, but he will be reading several actual paper books as well. He often reads in bed before sleeping and consequently there is a haphazard pile of paperbacks beside the bed; in fact several piles and a few others randomly scattered about.
A couple of weeks ago he was away for a few days, and as I tried to replace the clean sheets on our bed I found I was struggling to find space to stand among all the books! So I got fed up and decided to tidy up.
There wasn’t any really obvious space to put them, the bedside cupboard was already taken up with 'stuff', but there was a little gap between the wardrobe and the wall of the alcove it sits within. I wondered if I could do something with that, so I asked on Freegle whether anyone wanted to get rid of a set of CD shelves. Nowadays a lot of people are digitising their music collections and getting rid of physical discs.
And yes, somebody had exactly what I wanted looking for a new home. And the height of the shelves was adjustable, so I could make them the right height for books without even needing to do any work. And it was the perfect fit for the little narrow space. I was able to clear the floor so I could vacuum properly and make the bed with ease.
Don’t you think it looks perfect?
