Casinos, Casinos Everywhere!

How do you know you’re in Nevada? When casinos are as ubiquitous as Dollar General Stores back home.
Casinos, casinos everywhere!!! The Casa Blanca was the first one I saw, in Mesquite, Nevada, so I stopped and took a picture of it. It has that “maybe we can make people think this is Jimmy Buffett-related by sticking a parrot on the logo” look, doesn’t it?
(Since casa blanca is Spanish for “white house,” they might alienate some people politically with that name, too.)
After snapping some photos of the landscape that only looks different from Arizona’s because of the casinos (or the bank name, Nevada State Bank
[always good to have a bank near a casino!]), I hunted down some food and enjoyed a leisurely snack of watermelon in the desert.
I didn’t stay too long in Nevada, but now there are only four states that I haven’t been kicked out of/been to:
Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska.
Vegas will have to wait for another time (as I told my best friend, the LAST place I want to be is Las Vegas on a Saturday night!), but Nevada has been conquered.
The photos are the Casa Blanca Casino and the Nevada State Bank in a typical Nevada desert setting.

Too many Casinos in Las Vegas and many of them offer a really poor quality food. I remember we went to see the oldest saloon near Las Vegas during a wonderful sunny day, but that was so cold we could not even stay outside the car. It was February.

That’s exactly what I mean about the “old days” of Vegas. Everything these days is cookie-cutter. And, like I said, I didn’t even go there and I know that. There’s a casino about 20 miles from my house if I ever have an urge to go to one.
But the landscape is lovely.

@FourWalls - I lived in Monte Carlo 31 years, I went to the Casino time by time, to have a drink or a snack at their restaurant. I never spent a dime playing.

Sounds like you had quite the whirlwind “blink-and-you-miss-it” adventure in Nevada. I love how you summed it up—casinos everywhere, like Nevada’s version of Dollar General! I was there last May, and I remember being surprised that the moment you land at the airport, slot machines are already everywhere, practically greeting you at every corner of the city. Your Casa Blanca description made me laugh; I can totally picture that “parrot for tropical vibes” logo. And honestly, enjoying fresh watermelon in the desert sounds way better than elbowing through a Saturday night crowd in Vegas. Now with Nevada officially “conquered,” you’re down to just four states—almost a full sweep of the map!

@FourWallsYeah, our temperature is quite similar to that, but there's a slight difference in humidity since we're on an island. The humidity here is much higher, so it does feel different. I tend to sweat more here than there.

@rsa101 — we have a joke, “but it’s a dry heat.” Many people laugh at it, but having experienced 104F actual temperatures and 104F heat index/“feels like” temperatures, I’ll take the low humidity 104 any day.

I was also amazed how quickly the land flattened out once I got into Nevada, AND how much the temperature went up. It was 104 in Mesquite, Nevada according to my car thermometer, but “only” 96 in Arizona, just 30 miles up the road!

Nice photos. I have never been to Nevada and Las Vegas. My parents when they were able to travel loved going to Las Vegas. My Mom said that my husband and I were missing out not ever having traveled there. We are not into gambling, maybe one day we will go there to see a show and shop. But, if it never happens, it's not the end of the world.

I agree. People have commented that the “new, latest, greatest” places are pretty bad compared to the individuality of the old places like the Sands and the Flamingo. I’d like to make it, but I’m more set on the four states I haven’t visited yet.

It is, and it’s funny how it flattened out within a mile of the state line.

@FourWalls We had a 3-400 mile trip once and it was amazing how the terrain changed time and again.

I did not know that casinos are the norm in the state of Nevada besides the motion pictures showing them a lot throughout the movie.

I’m not doing any buffet except one with salad and fruit after working so hard to lose all this weight.
Or Jimmy Buffet.
(That was a joke they used in the movie FM.)

@FourWalls Once wouldn't hurt. The buffet at the Rio was really good. That's where I won $60 on the slots; and hubby took my winnings and lost them. Sigh.

Apart from Casinos Las Vegas is a well laid out State. Who can forget Fremont Street with dazzling sky scenes the whole night through. It is a street loaded with entertainment.

I’m not a gambler, and with the cookie-cutter casinos now as opposed to the unique ones when Vegas started, I don’t see a reason to go.

Well, Nevada is flatter than AZ plus AZ has all those cacti most other desert states don't.
Back in the 1980s we'd go through phoenix to get to las vegas and once we crossed hoover damn it was the same kinda desert as we have here in southwest TX & NM, but phoenix had all those beautiful cacti.
Wait til you see Utah, it's a whole lot different as far as deserts go, they have beautiful rock formations.

I spent the night in Utah. They have these scenic view stops along I-70 that have eaten a lot of space in my cloud storage for photos.
You’ll probably appreciate the “where’s Waldo” song today because it’s SOOO accurate about Utah.

It’s no big deal to me that I didn’t make it to Vegas. I honestly would like to see the 1 October Memorial, and that’s it for Vegas. All the cheesy stuff that was there in the 50s and 60s is gone.

I didn’t make it this time. It’s not high on the list of things to see, but then I missed so much that I’ll have to go back and see more!!
