Who says a mother-in-law above 60 can't torture?

Recently an woman, an engineer by profession complaint to the police against her husband and mother-in-law of domestic violence. The lawyer from the husband's side gave an idiotic reply that a 63 year old mother-in-law can't torture a young daughter-in-law. I don't agree. My mother-in-law was 75 when I got married. She not only tortured me mentally by using abusive language but tortured me physically. She saw to it that I was half fed. In my city too a 75 year old mother-in-law burnt her newly wed daughter-in-law to death. She got death sentence but the process took long and when the day arrived she was 90. Some human activists pleaded for her but the judge, a lady said that she had no repentance for what she did and she was hanged. So don't think old mother-in-law to be helpless for they use their brains to torture.

In India the wife's mother rarely interferes in her daughter's family. Invariably it's the husband's mother who is the devil.

Sadly I never met my Mother in Law. I don’t think age comes into it when you are talking about torture ….any one of any age can be capable of it.

Mother-in-law are not like mother. They always discriminate with their Daughter-in-law. Daily we read such news. This is true when a person gets old he/she doesn't have a strength to torture someone physically but there is always a possibility that she might have provoked the girl's husband to torture her.

No they can also torture physically by depriving the daughter-in-law of the basic amenities like not giving her proper food , sleep, rest and so on.

@aninditasen There are memes here about mother-in-laws torturing their SIL/DIL. I know my mom was well-liked by her DIL. They were treated just like mom's kids.

If I have a mother in law like yours I will fight her back. Who cares if I and my husband splitted. I can't live and manage to live tortured mentally and physically. It's crucial for our well - being.

I did put my foot down after my children were born otherwise she would have killed my sons and me. I avoided her as long as she lived.

That's very sad that these people think it is okay to torture others. I'm sorry you had to go through this.

Such people are paid back in the same coin if not by human beings but by God.
