Happy International Lefthanders Day to all my fellow southpaws out there! Plus, I’m home! To celebrate being home, I’ll call on a native son of Kentucky to sing me back into the “regular” routine. Fear not, I’ll keep entertaining you with the joys of the trip. Lots left to discuss! Meanwhile, Linda? NO!!!!!!!!!
Eight More Miles to Louisville - Grandpa Jones
No, Louis Marshall Jones was NOT from Louisville. He was from the western part of the state, a little dot-on-the-map-is-bigger place called Niagara. Close enough!
Jones was all of 22 when he got the nickname “Grandpa.” Bradley Kincaid, his radio partner at the time, told him he was a “crotchety old grandpa” in the morning. (Or, as my t-shirt says, morgenmuffel!
) He got that nickname in the country music capital of the world, Boston, Massachusetts.
(No kidding!) The screen grab is Jones without his “Grandpa” makeup, and the man to his left is fellow Kentuckian Merle Travis (best known for writing Tennessee Ernie Ford’s hit “Sixteen Tons”).
While I haven’t been to “Portland west” (I haven’t been to “Portland east,” either, but I was close in Kennebunkport, Maine!), I have traveled a little.
But Louisville is “the hometown of my heart” and soul.
It’s great to travel, but it’s great to be home.

Thank you. Traveling is wonderful, and so is going home. Everyone who travels knows that strange contradiction.

@FourWalls - You are right, it seems a contradiction, but it's true.

I remember Grandpa Jones from Hee Haw. Just an aside when my parents were building their garage..sis and I thought one of the workers looked like Roy Clark from Hee Haw The other one looked like our neighbor..Mr. Berlin, so we called our builders to ourselves as Mr. Berlin and Roy Clark. No Grandpa Jones in sight though!

That is funny. By the time Hee Haw came around Grandpa didn’t need makeup for the look.
