Just one more funny thing from the trip

So, we stayed in a motel in Ohio..less than 5 minutes from the West VA border, and not far from Kentucky either. We liked the room and the stay there, but one thing was kind of comical. The bed was a platform bed that was between .3.0 and 3.5feet off the floor. I never saw anything like it. I had to really stretch my leg and hop to get up there. I told friend..a short person could never get up here. They would need a stool for sure. Have you slept in some strange beds?

If it is low you don't have such a distance to fall if you fall off the bed

You are right as long as you are not a sleepwalker.

I slept in one hung from a rope, but as a kid I thought it was cool. As an adult, I think it would make me terribly dizzy. I kind of want to try the platform one!

@snowy22315 No, it wasn’t a hammock, but wow, the situation you describe sounds wild!

Yes, they had those high beds in the condos we were staying at several years ago. They were annoying to me! I'm a shortie at 5'4".

@snowy22315 I worried about it when we were remodeling the hall bathroom before my mother passed away and was living with us. My husband told me to just go book a condo for a few days and make the repairs go smoother with everyone out of the house. They had those big high beds and I worried about my mom falling out of the bed. She didn't thank goodness. We went to the Gulf Coast, just a few hours away from home.

@kareng Sounds good..I mistakenly said on here I hadn't been to the ocean this year, but I forgot we went to Myrtle Beach at the end of March. I liked the gambling boat I was on. It was cheap. Glad your mother was OK.

That sounds about right to me. Between our bed frame and our box spring, and then the pillow top mattress, it is a hop to get into our bed here at home. The girls cannot get up on it alone. They wanted up on it not too long ago and I let each of them up there, and they promptly each laid on their back on the big pillows that we have with their hands tucked behind their heads and smiles on their faces. I guess our bed is huge compared to their little ones, and even taller than our son's bed as they do not use a bed frame.

My grandparents had those beds, I remember I used a stool to get on the bed when I was a kid. In the past, beds were often elevated higher off the floor to stay warmer by avoiding cold drafts near the ground. In some places it was also to avoid insects and rodents, that was not the case in my grandparents house.

@LadyDuck When we were kids and stayed at my grandparents, even though we never fell out of beds..They put a couple of chairs next to the bed to stop us from rolling off.

My beds are high like that. You are right, a short person would need a step stool.

The bed I have now is higher off the floor than some previous beds I've had--but not that high, I don't think. Do you mean the frame was that high, or the matress/box spring?

I've slept in a water bed before, but it wasn't at a hotel. It was OK, didn't make me want to have one though.

Vince's 'hospital bed' which we bought when he had his heart operation could be cranked up quite high but it made it very easy to make.

When we used to travel we brought a stool for me so that I could get up on the beds.

Well, mine is made of mud and it is around 3ft high. Made it that way because I had modified my entrance iand realized too late that a bed couldn't fit / enter
