Animal control officers looking for a water monitor lizard

Monitor lizard on the loose in Webster Massachusetts

Animal control officer in Webster Massachusetts are asking residents of Webster to be on the lookout for a monitor lizard that has been seen in area neighborhoods as of Friday July 18. The monitor lizard which is from Asia is not allowed to be kept as a pet in Massachusetts is being searched by police as well as police drones. The water lizard is known for swimming in pools. The water lizard will not harm humans or dogs and cats If anyone sees the water lizard, the police are asking residents to contact animal control officers so they can take care of the water lizard and take the animal to a safe place. I hope the owner did not release the lizard. The lizard should be in its own country...not as someone's pet.

Of course, if one of these water monitor lizards is rankled by a human, they might bite, and their bites can cause deep wounds, and the bite could easily become infected, by bacteria in the lizard's mouth. Better to let the experts pick it up, if found, as a layman might just get bitten, trying to play the hero.
