Today’s the day the car gets PT. My oil change is scheduled later this afternoon, so while I munch on lunch I’ll treat you to another song that’s named after a place I was along the way on this vacation. An instrumental! Which comes with a “Linda? NO!” warning. Here we go! Grand Junction - Poco There are TWO Poco songs I could have used (the other being “Rocky Mountain Breakdown”), but I don’t repeat artists…to my dismay. Heck, I could have used this one, “Rocky Mountain Breakdown,” and “Western Waterloo”! It’s that smokin’ little country-rock band that built the highway AND paved it for acts like the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt…and never got their due. Even if they put them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today, with three members gone (original bassist Randy Meisner [who played on this album but was not listed as a band member], longtime member Paul Cotton, and founding member Rusty Young) it’s too late. Okay, enough of that. There was just a little magic in the country music they played, and this song had me dancing in my car as I drove through Grand Junction. Grand Junction Written by Rusty Young Recorded by Poco From Pickin’ Up the Pieces, 1968 Enjoy!!

They had a lot of foot-tapping instrumentals in their day.

Glad these guys finally got recognized for their contributions to Country Rock music. Filled with a lineup of outstanding musicians and songwriters who made an impact with whomever they played with. Furay, Messina and Young formed a band in Poco which helped create a unique musical genre. That instrumental is a toe tapper for sure. How did the HOF overlook these guys for so long. Same with the Moodies, geez!

They still haven’t been recognized. The only recognition they’ve received is Rusty Young in the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, and the band in the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. And as long as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ignores Neil Sedaka they have NO credibility.

@dgobucks226 — as he wrote “Stupid Cupid,” a hit by the late Connie Francis, maybe they’ll wise up and put him in before it’s posthumous. I mean, the man is 86.

@FourWalls Oh no, they haven't. And some of the inductees they choose leave me scratching my head. Gee Whiz, Neil should have been a lock!

When I first started to spin this, I thought, okay, I might like this one. But then no words ever came, and I just don't like instrumentals. Oh well. It almost made it.

The nice things about instrumentals, though, is you can make up your own lyrics. And you never get the original lyrics wrong.
