Getting Into the Spirit

My late mom would be laughing at the shirt in this photo. Not because of what is written on it, but because my sister bought the T-shirts and ironed these patches on she picked out with a phrase my sister also selected. Growing up, my sister never wanted to be dressed alike, and thought matching t-shirts on vacations was corny. Now, she’s got all of us shirts in the correct size with these patches, ready for the upcoming cruise.
You may wonder, why white? With three children they’ll get especially dirty, right? Well, because white was the least expensive, and none of us were going to pitch in for something nobody else wants to wear, she went with white. I think she’s just after one good photo with us in them, and then we’ll be free to wear whatever. I just don’t want to get anything on it until she gives us the okay. I can just hear my dad asking her how long until he doesn’t have to worry about getting it dirty anymore.
What was cute to me was the longer my parents were married, the more my dad tried to dress he and my mom similarly. They had the same OU (where they got their Masters) tennis shoes, he bought her the same OU coat he had, (only it was for females),. He even got them the same pair of gloves. Because he’s such a masculine man, my sister and I would jokingly tease him about it, but he laughed it off. They got really cute over the decades.
At least it’s easy to keep a group together when they’re dressed alike. I appreciate my sister getting so gung ho!

Yes, I thought I remembered that because when I wrote it, you and your husband popped into my head. I knew you had mentioned something similar. I can just see you walking around, hand in hand, dressed like a couple who have been together forever, just like my parents. It’s clear as day.

I assumed we’d be wearing shorts, but someone said it’s way cooler there in September than September in Oklahoma so shorts aren’t practical. While I imagine she’ll have her kids in the same colored slacks, we’ve been given the okay to wear what we want for that part. Oh, and I found this great thing I think I’ll give a try, Lenore. They look like jeans, but they have the comfort and warmth of sweats. I’d love to look dressier than if I were wearing sweats, but still be as comfy as possible.

@sallypup My stepmom has gotten into skorts lately. I don’t know how you feel about those, but they are good in hot climates. I like Phoenix, but unfortunately, the first time I went it was July. I found it much better in the month of January, the second time around.

Sounds like she is as excited about it as you are.

I want to enjoy it, but I want her to enjoy it more simply because she put so much effort into it. Once she finally gave up selling Disneyland to my dad as a family trip, she began her campaign for this one, and I hope (and think) we’ll all just relax and enjoy it.

It sounds like she is really getting quite excited about it.
It will be nice to have a family photo in them.
