At the Gate, But Not of the Mansion

Stoic. My wife said I looked stoic in this picture. Well, hey...I'm a serious guy, you know. Besides, I have never considered myself to be a particularly photogenic guy anyway. It is what it is. Nonetheless, this little selfie was taken of the fam outside the gate to the Graceland welcome center across the street from the mansion. We went inside and got our tickets for the tour which set us each back $84 a piece, although my sister and I got our tickets for $82 with a veteran discount. She's former Air Force, and I am former Navy. We had a great time visiting the mansion which was the third time for my sister, and the second time for me and my wife, but the first time for my mom and her twin sister. Boy, was it scorching hot though.

$84 for admission? Man, we are in the wrong business. Great pic.

lol. And despite those entry fees and what they charge for all the souvenirs and other things on the premises, they always complain they are bleeding money. It never will make sense to me. lol

They really whack you sometimes with entry prices to these places.

They really do. Beyond that, the stuff in the gift shops, and there are several on the premises, were all outrageously priced. I didn't buy anything.

Did you get a chance to see Elvis? They say he mostly hangs out in the Jungle Room,

I've only seen the Graceland mansion on tv and they did an inside tour and what surprised me most was how small it was. Way smaller than what I expected that mansion to be. Still a place I'd love to visit one day. Stoic or not, I like the family picture

We were talking about this when we were there on this trip. I think there is a lot of the mansion not open to the public considering the whole house is apparently 10,000 square feet, and when you walk around inside it, you don't get the impression that's what you are seeing. My sister's house is 6,000 square feet and if I were to "tour" it, it would be much bigger than Graceland but based on the published square footage of the mansion, it's 4,000 square foot bigger. There's the upstairs, of course, where Elvis spent most of his time which also includes Lisa Marie's bedroom. There are other rooms displayed on the walls inside the area where they display certain memorabilia like checks Vernon and Elvis wrote and signed and other various things. We never see those rooms on the tour. Where are they in the house? I have no idea. Why aren't they part of the tour? Maybe due to accessibility or there's some other reason? I'm not sure. But I do agree that what you see looks very small, although you do get a different sense when you walk outside the mansion and can tell instantly...there's more here. Nonetheless, despite things being 70s out of date and quite honestly, quite gaudy, the tour is interesting, and it makes you wonder what it must have been like to have been there when Elvis roamed the hallways. Perhaps Elvis never left the building, and he is still living in the parts we can't see. lol
