Short rain seasons are often accompanied by white edible insects that come from underground nests or anthills. Some come during the day, others at dusk, others around midnight and some in the wee hours of the morning. Each type has a unique size, but those that come out at around midnight are largest in size. All these are edible and it is common to find them being sold in market places either sundried or fresh. Do you eat white ants?

I wouldn't really like to eat insects. It's not what we're used to but I know various insects are eaten in many countries.

You are right. I only eat white ants after they have been fried. Eating them raw could expose one to health problems since they come from underground and could be contaminated

@sidikimpole I used to eat them as a child in Malawi. In the rainy season they emerged at night and seemed to be attracted to the moon. We just grabbed handfuls of them and stuffed them in our mouths.

I agree with you, they seem to be attracted to the moon but can easily be lured by other lights. Great you enjoyed them but eating them in large quantities could upset your tummy!

I will not ever willingly eat bugs. I just won't. Especially when I consider that here in the US, most homes and businesses, as well as crops, are treated with insecticides, and bugs are treated, too. Yes, I realize we all eat some chemicals either unknowingly or because they can get in our foods, but I am just not going to ever willingly eat bugs...just a big nope from me!
