Yes, I’m late. Two hours at the VA will do that to you. Nothing serious, scheduled podiatry and physical therapy. You shouldn’t have to wait for today’s song on the list of places I went on my recent trip. One of my favorite albums of the 70s provides today’s entry.
Illinois - Dan Fogelberg
Think about it: soft/folk-rock singer Dan Fogelberg teaming up with Joe Walsh (used earlier this month), not exactly thought of when people use terms like “soft rock” or “folk rock.” But WOW did it work when Walsh produced Fogelberg’s 1974 masterpiece Souvenirs. (Walsh’s 1974 solo album, So What, was also outstanding…good year for Walsh!)
Fogelberg was from Illinois (born in Peoria), and he wrote this love song to his home state, comparing it to the artificial facade of L.A. (“south California, your sun is too cold, it looks like your hills have been raped of their gold”).
I miss Dan Fogelberg. I also wish people knew more of his stuff than just “Longer.”

Do you have a crush on him?
He reminds me of Bryan Adams.

@luisadannointed — Paul McCartney really was “the cute Beatle.” I think Don Henley was gorgeous in his younger days. He still looks pretty good to be pushing 80 (he turned 78 in July).

He did some good ones. I liked his sound. Haven't heard his music in years.

He was one of the worst concerts I ever attended. Not necessarily his fault: folkies don’t belong in an arena where Kiss and Rush played.

He had some good rockers, too, which gets buried in the mix.

My family has always loved Dan's music. My son here with me says ''we grew up listening to him'' and he is right, along with many others we enjoyed. I thought it was special that ''Leader Of The Band'' was written about his father.

They have a street in Peoria named for Dan and his dad. I think that’s sweet.

I know…people have to realize they aren’t “too young” to get something like prostate cancer.
