What’s on tap for September? A promise! For months, our great El Paso myLotter @rebelann has chided me (in a good natured way, of course) about how she gets so into the upbeat songs and danceable rhythms that I post that…well, she wears her chair out. I promised her a month of no boogeying. So for September, we have songs that are “couples skates,” “slow skates,” or songs that’ll let you sway your head back and forth but NOT dance your butt off! And aren’t you lucky: these will all be hits, and no country music! Prepare to slow dance…such as with this song called “Slow Dancing (Swaying to the Music).” This was a hit for Johnny Rivers, but the version I’m using here is by the song’s writer, Jack Tempchin, and his band the Funky Kings. Jack also wrote the song “Peaceful Easy Feeling.” Fun story: I had my friend’s copy of the Funky Kings album when I went to see him opening for Glenn Frey in 1982. I asked Jack if he’d be kind enough to sign the album, then showed it to him. His reply? “Hell yes I’ll sign it!” Jack’s still working, and you can follow him on Facebook.
