Jimmy Buffett passed 2 years ago today

I'm a Parrothead. The term may not be known to many but it means that you are a big fan of Jimmy Buffett. It is a play on the whole "Deadhead" nickname of fans who would follow The Grateful Dead around the country from show to show. I never followed JB around but saw him well over a dozen times when he was playing in NYC, Camden, and Atlantic City. JB's music was some kind of mashup of island, country, and rock. He even has a line in one of his songs (Simply Complicated) about him not fitting into a specific genre. My kids (students) like listening to his songs on Pandora even if they don't know who he is. Every now and then I'll ask them "who is singing this?" and they have no clue. They swear they have no idea who Jimmy Buffett is. Then I start playing "Margaritaville" and they are all like "yeah we've heard this!" Anyway 2 years ago today JB passed from skin cancer. It was clear that he was ill for well over a year before that when he cancelled his summer tour. He kept the actual issue private though. We didn't find out until after he passed. Makes sense--skin cancer--for someone who spent so much time on boats and at the beach. I woke up that day, saw the news, and I was like "wow this weekend sucks". I thought losing JB and having to go back to work was going to be the worst combination. Little did I know that something even more tragic would occur 2 days later. Still today is a sad anniversary. Jimmy Buffett was such a huge happy personality. He should still be here.
