Nowadays I Try to Detect More...

With the prices of many food items skyrocketing I really try to detect why I need these things more than I would have before. For instance, take eggs. I want them. I love them on a daily basis. I know that they are good for me. Etc. If the list goes on and I can clearly find positive aspects to buying a certain product, then I will buy. But nowadays I have to do this mental work. It has to be a smart buy, or I can't see doing it.
Eggs are at $4.89 for 18 eggs. And $3.29 for 12. They used to be approximately $2 less on each. How times have changed.

I have one old egg in the fridge. I don't keep any because there is no one to make them for me.

Always think about the unit price. The price of eggs will probably stay close to where it is now, with meat products being so pricey. About 27 cents per egg is pretty cheap protein!
Times have definitely changed. We are all having to think up creative ways to have healthy and affordable meals, for sure.

Yes, it is. Times sure have changed. I remember back when I was living at my grandparents. Grama could buy a roast big enough to feed 4 people for $3. Now it's 10 x s that amount.

Yes, even a simple pot roast is pretty much beyond my budget now. Red meat is crazy expensive!

Oh, yes. I have really acquired a taste for them lately. I taught my daughter how to cook them just right so they are very good.

I write and rewrite my grocery lists and finally agree on one so that when I order I have enough money left in my account for anything else I need during the month and of course I work to add to that amount,

That's the way we have to be nowadays. I remember filling out a form one time and it had in parentheses' that a household our size would spend twice what I was actually able to spend on groceries. I was flabbergasted.

You do have to do more meal planning these days that’s for sure so that you don’t waste food.

I still buy eggs for breakfasts and all of the baking I do. I can't say I've bought a steak or roast in awhile but I do still buy eggs. My coworker gave me a bunch of duck and chicken eggs back in May and June. She texted me that she will have some for me this Friday. Hey I'll take free eggs!

Eggs are so good. It's nice you have a way of getting some free.
