Why Are Passwords So Hard To Reset?

United States
September 4, 2025 1:59pm CST
For the last week I have been trying to reset my passwords on three sites, with no luck. Two sites sent back a password, and I copied it and put it in, no dice. I bet I have used 30 or 40 different passwords, and none of them don't take. Has anyone on Mylot encountered this, and if so how did you solve it. I just redeemed at one place, but can't do so because of password issues. This has been very frustrating. I even emailed one of companies, hope I hear from them soon. Have you ever had this problem.

The best is when you go to reset it and the site says "new password must be different from current one". Um, then why didn't it work? Or "you have already used that password". I swear I have no more passwords left in me.

Yes, I've hit that wall, too. After several tries, I usually give up and make a new account if I really liked the site. But none of the places owed me money, either. I'd probably get more aggressive about "fixing" a password problem if my money was involved.

I didn't think about setting up a new account, that might be easier.

@popciclecold You'll lose the money you've already earned, though. But it's not as if you can get it from the site now, anyway.

I suppose passwords are difficult to reset so nobody can just send an e-mail and say they’re you and forgot their password. Yes, I’ve had problems where the password didn’t work. I aven’t had that much since Apple invented the password keychain.

Well, I don't know about Apple keychain, but this was the worst thing I have ever experienced.

Honestly, don’t get me started on passwords ! Years ago you were asked for a password….you thought of one word you could remember easily , and the job was done ! Then you had to add a capital letter Then you had to add a number Then you had to add a special character Oh my days ….what a palarva ! Then, for no good reason, you have to reset the blooming password, and the whole saga starts again. I am not a fan of passwords….can you tell ! Anyway, good Luck.

I had a problem logging into Pinecone Research. Found out that they dropped me because of my age. I had money in the account too which I couldn't redeem!!!

I’ve driven myself nutty trying to get into some of my accounts. The password train never ends. They’re so picky!

Generally, passwords that have been used cannot be used again and some sites require special symbols.

Nope lately I have not tried to reset any but when I have, it has worked out. I keep a notebook of all my sites, emails, and passwords.

They reject passwords for some reasons and then I try more till I can get them accepted. Frequent need to change passwords catch us off guard when we are in a hurry. I have to jot down them lest I forget.

When I had this problem, it usually sorted out after contacting support, so hopefully they reply to you soon.
