Well today is the 2nd anniversary of that horrible day

I'm sure you are all sick of reading about it (if you read my posts) so hopefully this will be the last one for awhile. (no promises though!) My dad had a horrible accident in the ocean 2 years ago yesterday. After being resuscitated and taken to the local hospital he was transferred to a shock/trauma ICU overnight.
The next day, September 4 2023, was very difficult. I won't bore you yet again with the details but ultimately we learned that he was never going to recover so life support was removed. He was surrounded by family and friends and lots of love and tears.
Today I posted this picture of him on Facebook. He was scuba diving in Cozumel and was next to a sea turtle. He took his regulator out so the divemaster could take a picture of him smiling with the turtle. That was just so him. Happiest guy on the planet. I put a clip of Jimmy Buffett's song "Bubbles Up" to it because the term refers to scuba diving, my dad loved JB, and JB passed just a few days before my dad did that very same weekend.
I sent a screen shot of the post to my ex and wrote "smiling even underwater!" He replied "that's all he did".
I didn't text anyone else about today's anniversary though--not my mother, sister, cousin, uncle, etc. I'm sure everyone's heart is hurting so no need to get them going even more.
Bubbles Up Dad! We all miss you!
If you have a couple of minutes listen (or try) to listen to the song. It is beautiful. It is considered Buffett's farewell to his fans as he knew he was dying from cancer when he recorded it.

We all grieve in a very unique way, as well all love uniquely and our losses are felt just as that.
I understand you posting about him-he was your favorite human being, I totally get that.
Bubbles up, that is a suitable thought for such a bubbly and fun loving person.
I hope that you remember the smiles and happiness today, and you can keep those memories closest to your heart.

Bubbles up actually is a scuba diving term. Sometimes (too often) divers get disoriented and don't know where to go. They drown because they don't know which way is up. The mantra is "bubbles up". . . follow the bubbles and they will take you to the surface.

That was such a heartfelt tribute—you painted such a vivid picture of your dad’s spirit and joy for life. Smiling even underwater says everything about who he was, and pairing that memory with “Bubbles Up” makes it even more meaningful. It’s beautiful that you chose to share him in a way that celebrates his happiness rather than only the sadness of losing him.
Grief anniversaries are never easy, and you’re right—sometimes it feels kinder not to stir the pain for others who are also hurting. But in your own quiet way, you’ve honored him while keeping his light alive. I’m sure he’d love knowing you remember him with both love and a smile.
