What a powerful welcome we enjoyed today at the home of my wife’s cousin who we met at Church last Sunday down here in West Cork. We hadn’t intended contacting anyone because it’s been 44 years since my wife has met any of them and we thought it might be weird and a bit of an imposition on them, but there are cousins queueing up to meet us now that they found out we are here.
We had a lovely afternoon and were taken out for lunch, learning all about how we are related to just about everyone from Cionn tSáile to Cloich na Coillte.
Just when I was getting overwhelmed by my wife’s roots cousin Willie turned to me and asked where I was from. I admitted that my grandfather had come up north from an Sciobairín, and after a few probing questions Willie informed me that I would be related to a family in Baltimore (the Irish one) who his barber knows. Their son is a fine ukulele player in Leap I’m told.
There you go.

That's interesting... At least you're learning something about her family. And maybe, some of yours, too.

@daddyevil And we’re distant relatives from Henry Ford! His father came from Ballinascarhy just up the road from here.

It's good that it has been a positive experience. Sounds like an interesting group of folks.

Definitely a small world. I'm glad you had such a warm welcome.

Everyone seems to know someone who knows someone, and suddenly the world feels much smaller and friendlier.
