Emergency ambulance came last night for my neighbour.

I have talked about this neighbour several times before. He lives with his son opposite my Mom. We have been family friends for 50 years. Sadly, Charles, is well into his 90’s and has dementia. He is now bedridden. His son, who is in his 60’s has lived with him all his life and has been his carer for several years. His Mom died about 5 years ago. Charles has carers going in three times a day, but they never stay long and their work is basic. Anyway, last evening around 8pm the ambulance arrived and we could see that the paramedics were busy in the front bedroom, as they had the lights on but not drawn the curtains. They stayed almost an hour but didn’t take Charles to hospital. Unfortunately this is a sight which I think is going to become the norm pretty soon. Such a sad situation for someone who was such an active man.

Aging, and especially dementia, are just cruel.

It certainly is. Charles was always a very chatty, friendly man, now he hasn’t been out the house in months and apart from carers they have no visitors. I don’t think he is actually aware of much around him now.

Sometimes there's not a lot an ambulance can do.

That's so sad. Unfortunately we all get old and it's rarely pleasant.

Dementia is a cruel disease. My husband's kicked in when he went into the hospital the first time. The last day he was conscious, he didn't know who I was. I feel sorry for Charles.

You truly understand as you have gone through it. Last time I saw Charles , he didn’t know who I was despite seeing me most days from when I was 9 ….almost 50 years. It did upset me greatly. Everything had been taken from him.

@Traceyjayne I doubt my husband could have come home even if he recovered from his other physical issues. I'm so sorry that he didn't know you.
