Speaking of grocery prices. . . a coworker gave me a dozen eggs today from her little backyard farm. I was bringing in empty egg cartons for her to reuse and she had a dozen waiting in her office for me. Our minds were on the same wavelength!
I took a quick peek this morning and it looked like there were 10 duck eggs and 2 chicken ones. I had never had duck eggs until she started sharing them with me last spring. They aren't great for like a breakfast sandwich or scrambled eggs (they get a bit rubbery) but they are fine for baking and to do things like bread chicken cutlets to fry. I think I even used them in ice cream too early in the summer. In those types of applications they are great.
Hey come to think of it I can use them for the egg nog that I am going to be making soon. The recipe calls for a dozen egg yolks. (I usually make angel food cake for a trifle with the leftover whites) The recipe is not cheap to make but I already have the booze and now I have a dozen free eggs. All I'll have to buy is the dairy. Wow this year's batch will be the easiest on my wallet yet!

Duck eggs are delicious, you are fortunate to get them. My friend brought me fresh eggs last week, I paid her back with her favorite brownies.
