One thing I can say about a power outage in the middle of the morning: it’s inconvenient to very few people. I have to go home and reset two clocks. Oh, how terrible. I can’t do anything for plastic chairs that give way under too much dancing, except give you a month of songs that don’t require that much movement. That’s this month’s countdown, for our great myLotter @rebelann . And here’s today’s song. Joanne - Michael Nesmith and the First National Band Oh, Linda? NO. Hey, hey, he’s a Monkee, but this is still country enough to have been played on our “traditional” country station back in the 70s. This was the only major hit by any of the solo Monkees, proving they were really pre-fab. (All four Beatles had at least one #1 hit.) There’s a good reason this was a hit, though: it’s a great song. It was in those days of “countrypolitan” where you didn’t know if “Different Drum” (the Linda Ronstadt hit that Nesmith wrote) was country or pop, so they played it in both places. Same with this song, and a lot of Charlie Rich and Glen Campbell songs. Nesmith was the most musically talented of the Monkees…and, for those of you who don’t know, his mother invented Liquid Paper (what they used to use to correct typos in documents back in the Stone Age days of typewriters ). Joanne Written by Mike Nesmith Recorded by Michael Nesmith and the First National Band From Magnetic South, 1970 My only thoughts of her are kind:

Mickey sang lead on the theme song, "Last Train to Clarksville," and "I'm a Believer." Peter Tork didn't do much lead singing, but the other three did.

So basically Nesmith didn't do much singing for that band?

@rebelann — a Quick Look at their albums and it looks like Dolenz was the main singer, then Jones, then Nesmith, and Tork sang two or three.

I did not know that Mike Nesmith had a solo recording career with the Monkees.

Oh, yes, he was very prolific as a singer, musician, videographer (he had a TV series in the 80s called Elephant Parts), and songwriter (having written Linda Ronstadt’s first success, “Different Drum”).

I never knew he did any solo stuff. I don't imagine he got far with it, nonetheless. lol

When your mother holds the patent for Liquid Paper, you’re not too concerned about flopping as a musician.
