When I said the songs would be slower, it presented a challenge. Some people can dance to anything. And, honestly, this is a song that I liked roller skating to! This is one of those great R&B ballads from the 70s. I hope you (and @rebelann who inspired this month’s countdown for slower songs because she was rocking too hard [and next month will be back to the rocking-too-hard songs! ]) enjoy and remember this one. Kiss and Say Goodbye - The Manhattans This was The Manhattans’ only #1 pop hit, and only one of two top ten songs for them (the other was “Shining Star,” as in “honey, you are my shining star,” not the Earth, Wind, and Fire song). It was a major success worldwide in 1976. Despite the lyrical faux pas (from “I’ve got ties, and so do you” to “maybe you’ll meet another guy” in one verse? ), it’s one of those guilty-conscience-break-off-the-affair songs that even writer (and spoken introduction/bass singer) Winfred Lovett admitted was more of a country song than an R&B thing. (Second Hand Songs lists a couple of country versions, including one by DJ Ralph Emery, which I don’t even want to THINK about, let alone hear!) In the end, The Manhattans did a spectacular job with this song, making it their signature song. Kiss and Say Goodbye Written by Winfred “Blue” Lovett Recorded by The Manhattans From The Manhattans, 1976 I had to meet you hear today:

@TheHorse — because it was 70s popular music. You have said repeatedly that you weren’t into that.

I like love ballads like the song "Kiss And Say Goodbye" that was sung by The Manhattans.

I do too. There were the Barry White “love songs” (a comedian friend of mine said you could get pregnant just listening to a Barry White album ), then there were the slower ballads like this (and The Manhattans’ other hit, “Shining Star”).

Dang, its a tearjerker, kinda like what a lotta old time country western songs dad liked are, but at least it's slow

I think that’s why Lovett envisioned someone like Charley Pride recording it.

It was. Rey popular back then, so you probably heard it a time or two.
