In our travels over the last three or four days, we saw extensive paddocks of canola. Canola was first introduced into Australia from Canada in the 1960s. It was first called rapeseed but Mr Wiki tells me that canola is “a group of rapeseed cultivars that were bred to have very low levels of erucic acid and which are especially prized for use as human and animal food.”
Broadacre farming is the go in some of the country we drove through and fences are poor or non-existent. However, the bright yellow canola crops stretch far and wide. The colour is truly golden when the sun is shining on the crops.
A news report today says that the yellow crops can be seen in satellite photos. My photo is from a previous trip. It’s better than the one I took a few days ago.

We've just moved into spring and yes, many of the crops were in full bloom. Some have a way to go yet.
