Bowed but not beaten

The area around Elachbutting Rock is quite different to some other areas. The tunnel I wrote about is a bit eerie and many of the trees are quite misshapen as though they’ve had a very tough life. There is no bright green foliage. What foliage there is is a dull green. Many of the trees are bent right over as though they’ve experienced some very strong winds while they were forming. I liked this one which, if you follow the trunk, goes off to the right, turns completely over and ends up heading left again until it reaches back to its own trunk.

@JudyEv Yes, they do... I guess we'd look bad if we were out in the desert heat with not much water, too.

These trees are so unique, they seem to have a flexible personality all their own.

Most were tangled and 'brow-beaten'. Nothing lush and green about the area at all.

That sounds like such a fascinating landscape. The tunnel must feel even more mysterious with those twisted, weather-worn trees around it. I can imagine how eerie it would be to walk among foliage that is dull and bent from years of harsh winds. The tree you described sounds amazing, almost like nature’s own sculpture looping back on itself. Places like that really show the resilience and strange beauty of the natural world.

You've put it very well. All the misshapen and less-than-green vegetation gives testimony to the harsh weather there.

Yes, it's one of mine. I always say if it's one of Vince's, much as it hurts! Mostly I try to use my own.

I love trees that look like statues, I have a nice tree across from me that has a branch where a swing could go but the land belongs to the church so no swing,

Some of the camping grounds have swings swung from trees but more and more the worry about safety stops such installations.

We have some trees around that are storm damaged..but can't think of any that quite look like that.

Probably they've been a bit starved of water over the years. That might have something to do with the shapes that appear.

The bent shape is when they go in search of the sun.

I'm sure you are right. This tree has had a few hardships I think.

Strangely beautiful. I remember you showing pictures of trees that had been blasted by wind so they were “leaning” from the wind.

Some of our trees do lean right over after years of buffeting by strong winds. Here is the tree I've put up before. There is even a parking spot on the road near this so tourists can stop and take photos.

That is strange, I wonder if it was struggling to reach the light past some other tree that has since fallen?

That could be but much of the vegetation is a bit similar.
