What a Day and Age

The night we were in Dallas, Amyra (pictured here in her night cap) ended up being my roommate (the room had two queen beds). We were watching a young person’s show, and a commercial came on the screen. She sat up in on her bed and said, “I’m so glad we don’t dislike people because of their skin color anymore.” She went on to say how she didn’t understand why one would think they were better than another person because their skin was darker or lighter. Bless her heart, I didn’t bring up that racism is alive and well. She’s never heard it from anyone, but when she was two I heard a child ask an innocently rude question about how did they “get a black one.” I do not blame the kid for that as they meant nothing bad. Parents just need to educate their children a little. Plus, Amyra didn’t hear it. Unfortunately, Amyra has heard comments about Hudson, who has fetal alcohol syndrome, Autsim (not caused by Tylenol), rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis… she had heard him called the “R” word a couple times, and it makes her cry. In the hotel elevator, a man got in, and just stared at Hudson. All Hudson was doing was standing there, and rocking his top half back and forth. The guy just stared, and it really took me by surprise. So let’s get that “R” word out of our vocabulary, okay? I see so much goodness and support from you guys. I’m so grateful for the love you’ve showed my family and me.

You have a wonderful family and your sister and brother in law take care so well of these three children, that are now their own children, no matter the color of their skin. Unfortunately you are correct, racism still exist. People should be more educated and stop staring at those they judge "different".

I’m so sorry that she heard someone speaking about her brother. The man who starred at him was just so uncaring and immature. Amyra has a pure heart. Love her night cap.

She has several night caps she goes between because she says needs to change them “according to her mood”.

She's so cute. I wonder how cute you are Amber? Hahaha, those people who love to bring that up and attack people even though they are "pretty", are people who are so insecure inside, that's why. I think they are the saddest people alive in the world. When they have hate inside their hearts, it only gives them negative vibes and speeds up their aging process, lol!

Yes, hate does age a person. Amyra and I don’t look alike though; she’s adopted.

In my country, our life is integrated with the other races. For any example, we live in the same estates, go to the same school and even serve the army together.

We do that, but there is still strife between races, unfortunately.

@AmbiePam This is not an easy problem to resolve. Lets have conscription which will resolve this well as everyone goes through the same training in the army. Or at least that is what my government said.

I wish she would never have to see racism but I am afraid she will at some time. I am glad she has a loving family to support her when it happens. They are wonderful beautiful kids.

You have an awesome family, I hope they get to stay far away from any racism. I hope Hudson can find more people that accept him than those who don't.

Some people just have no empathy or compassion. I feel sorry for those people honestly. Her teeth look so straight and white. I guess the braces did their job!.

That smile brought such a big smile to my face. Photos of her have such a positive effect on me-thank you for sharing that. To be honest, I believe that racism is what people of your generation and mine make of it really. We are the influencers of our youth, which are our future. My grandbabies have always gravitated to people with dark skin, if we are in a restaurant or out in public. And health issues, those are tolerated best by our future if they see acceptance on our part. A friend of the girls, who is very dramatic, and at time uncontrollable, was taking toys from others and crying when her mother asked her to share, and would not stop crying, did stop thanks to Willow. Willow went over to her, asked her to come with her, so that they would be away from that area, and she put her hands on her shoulders and looked her in the eyes and said, please do not cry. The friend apparently (Grandpa told me of this) sniffled herself to stop crying and took Willow by the hand and they went to play again. They have a friend, who Harper loves to play with, and he loves to play with her. His sister has autism, and she loves to sit on the big sensory pillow that is in a corner of the room where they have playgroup, and often Willow will snuggle over towards her and just sit with her. Her mother often sees her take Willow by the hand in an expression of friendship. Of course she runs to Grandpa, and me as well with a hug, her mother told us that Antonia 'knows' her people. We all need to remain open minded and ready to realize that we are far from perfect and accept others for who and what they are.

It is very sad that people don't have more manners and/or compassion for others. What a rude guy to stare like that.

Amyra has a wonderful attitude about differences in color. Bless her heart is right. I'm sorry there are people out there who don't think before they speak. I'm sorry someone has called Hudson the "R" word. He doesn't deserve that.
