Is This the Taste Test that Time Forgot?

So, remember those Banquet pot pies I picked up not long ago? Tonight’s the grand unveiling. The oven’s doing its thing, and in a few minutes, we’ll find out if nostalgia holds up or if I’ve been romanticizing frozen gravy.
I haven’t touched these since I was a kid, but back then? Man… they were peak cuisine. Bomb dot com, as we used to say before we knew better.
Granted, my culinary standards at age 10 were somewhere between “edible” and “microwaves are magic.” A Jack’s pizza was gourmet. That cardboard disc of sauce and cheese was all I needed to feel like a king. At 52, though? Jack’s hits different. And by different, I mean it hits like regret.
Anyway, the pies are almost ready. I’ll report back with full transparency. They were cheap, so expectations are low—but hope springs eternal in the frozen food aisle.
Ever revisit a childhood favorite and think, “What in the processed hell was I so excited about?” Yeah. Me too. Stay tuned.

They ultimately passed. I thought they'd be saltier, but they really weren't. I do remember them being fuller back when I had them before. But I was surprised they had quite a bit of chicken in them. They filled the bill and we will do them again.

They were actually a surprising hit. Not quite like I remembered them. Maybe they were filled a bit more back in the day? But they actually were not as salty as I thought they would be, and had way more chicken inside than I expected. Two each was just enough. I'm not going to say any gold medals will be awarded, but for a cheap quick meal every once in a while? I'd do them again.

@porwest Yeah, we fix them in the winter time for a quickie meal. I think they used to have a bit more meat and veggies in them, but basically the same as they used to be--except for the price tag!! Used to could pick them up for 3/$1.00 or 2/$1.00. Now they are mainly over $1 each at most stores.

I like Banquet pot pies, but I like Marie Callanders Pot Pies better. Have you tried Marie Callanders Pot Pies?

I have been considering trying some of the Banquet pies but have not bought any yet. Only a buck a pie at Walmart,

I'll be interested in your report since I find these pot pies lacking.

We get them occasionally. They are not nearly as good as they used to be, but still so cheap. Marie Callendar makes pot pies that cost three or four times as much.

I was going to say, I see the Marie Callendar ones all the time, but they are quite a bit more. I do wonder if they are three or four times better than Banquet to justify their price. Maybe one day I will get one just out of curiosity, but I sure wouldn't want to make it a regular thing.
I still can make homemade if "quality" ever becomes an issue, and they really aren't that hard to make.

They may not be the healthiest thing, but I still like them. One is in my freezer right now

Wow you know how to bake. That's nice. I think if you know how to cook and bake doesn't matter if you are using a low quality ingredients, it will still taste good. That's what my mom says always, and she is right.

There are a couple of tinned meals that I used to love but they don't come up to scratch now.
