A Post Reminded Me of Something

Recently, @Looeyville posted about a guy who was arrested for murder and shared his mugshot—a face full of tattoos—and she asked, "How's he going to blend in?" Which of course, he can't. He won't. You may as well paint a billboard on your forehead saying, "Here I am!"
But it made me think back to a guy I served in the navy with, seaman Thurman, who decided one day, along with his cousin, to rob a local 7-11 convenience store.
I am not sure what the motivation was. I mean, you'd think he'd have his act together being in the navy and all. But some people are just...well...stupid.
But it wasn't just the fact that he and his cousin (who was not in the navy) decided to make this robbery a thing. It was something else that struck me as a double stupid.
The getaway car was none other than his cousin's neon orange Ford Mustang. No. You read that right. I said neon. Not just orange. Neon orange.
Not only did they do the robbery with a neon orange Ford Mustang used as their getaway car, they also parked it RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STORE! I mean, they didn't park it around the corner or anything. They literally parked it right in front of the store.
Seaman Thurman and his cousin were caught and arrested about 10 minutes following the robbery.
Gee, Thurman...how'd they know it was YOU?
Talk about not blending in.

Oh yeah, talk about a car that couldn't be any less inconspicuous. Dummies!

A friend of mine who is a police office once told me that he was incredibly thankful that almost all criminals are dumb-f*ck stupid, which made his job much easier.
I live adjacent to the University of Florida. During home football games, pretty much every law enforcement officer in north Florida is assigned some type of detail working the game. I happen to know from working for the City of Gainesville that on home football Saturdays, there would sometimes be five or less officers patrolling the entire city, with the remainder assigned to the football game. And that's five officers protecting us from crime AND handling traffic enforcement. I asked my police officer friend why criminals don't take advantage of football Saturdays to rob banks since it would be nearly impossible for law enforcement to mount an effective response (especially with how bad traffic is from 100,000 fans in town for the game), and he said because criminals are STUPID.
Sometimes I wish I could lead a life of crime. It would be so easy. But I don't, probably because I'm actually somewhat intelligent.
