One thing I am really happy about is that it has been years since I have seen a pay toilet. How cheap can you be to charge for using one? However, I realize water and maintenance is not free, so I can kind of sympathize for wanting money for toilet use, but it was a real nuisance back in the day. What if you really had to go, and didn't know the toilets were pay toilets and didn't have a dime handy? Do these toilets still exist anywhere? I think they should be outlawed if they do.

I recall being on the Autobahn, probably it was late 90's? Anyway...we stopped at what I would call a rest area--small park like setting with restrooms, etc. There was an attendant in the rest room, she had a little table and was all dressed up? It was a strange set-up...she charged each person for using the facilities. I recall it wasn't cheap by any means. Yes, the facilities were clean. It just seemed odd at the time.

I don’t remember when it was but I think early 2000s. I went on a vacation to Italy with my parents. They had public bathrooms there, but you had to pay I think a euro dollar to use the facilities. One time we were somewhere and there was no public bathroom so I went into a café to use the bathroom. In order to do that I had to buy a cappuccino. That was so weird. If I wanna go to the bathroom, the last thing I wanna do is drink something. But I had no choice.

Well alot of places reserve their bathrooms for customers only..at least stores that sell drinks and food.

@snowy22315 that’s understandable. But public bathrooms charging you to use the facilities is just wrong.

I don't think I have seen one since the late 60's honestly. A relic of the past which I think should stay there!

I haven't seen one past about 1970. You probably weren't even born then.

Just now
We have many ‘ pay for ‘ toilets in the UK, most in seaside towns are like that.
When we went to Paris a few years ago it cost €1 ……that’s very expensive !
