Would you put this on your dressing table?

The post by @JudyEv brought this up. In her photo of the wax woman getting ready for bed from the museum, there is a curved brush on the dressing table along with a mirror, candle sticks, trinket boxes etc. And she’s using a hairbrush to brush her hair. So what is the curved brush for? Well it could be some sort of clothes brush I suppose. But what it brought to mind for me was this – it’s a brush and crumb tray set, like a little dustpan and brush, for sweeping crumbs off the table cloth. I have two of these, the other one is plain wood, but they both have the curved brush. Anyone else have one or remember them, maybe? All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

@fleura I think my aunt had such equipment. Judy’s picture made me think of my aunt’s dressing table with all its mysterious tools and potions. Her nice nighties were kept in the bottom drawer for when she got married which sadly she never did, and eventually I think all that was in her bottom drawer was brought out for common use.

I'd have never thought of that. Not one of those things that strike me as essential!

The Victorians had specific tools for everything. I have a special dish specifically designed for tinned sardines! I don't have a pair of grape scissors though, so let me know if you ever see a pair for sale!
