So I had some money to deposit and also a cheque ….yes, some people still use cheques. It’s not very often I go into the centre of town as I’m off work, but I have bills to pay and needed to transfer money. I always like to go to a cashier and not use the machines. You practically have to push your way through the people at the door, wanting to know what you are doing there ….can they help …. Do you want to use the self service machine. I hate this …..I know what I want to do …..I don’t want to tell people in the doorway where everyone can hear my business. I don’t want to use a self service machine …..if any notes I’m trying to deposit are creased the machine chucks it back out at me …. I don’t trust machines … Anyway, after just a short wait I was able to complete the transaction. Yay …..the bills can be paid.

My banking gets done by cousin #3. Once in a great while I have a check that needs to be deposited. I use checks all the time. I hope they don't discontinue them.

Cheques are rarely used here now. Mom doesn’t do online and rarely goes into the middle of town where the banks are so she will give me a cheque to put in my account then I get the cash out for her.

@Traceyjayne I use checks to pay the cousins and any contractor that comes and does work for me, co-pays for specialist doctors, etc.

When I go to the bank, 99% of the time I go through the drive through lanes and 99% of that time it's to the ATM for deposits and withdrawals. It works well enough for me.

That’s great , but like I mentioned, in our machines if a note is just slightly creased it doesn’t always work and I end up going yo the desk anyway …..I haven’t got time to faff about. Also at the moment with the use of one arm/hand it is easier to go to the desk.

@Traceyjayne I definitely agree with you. Most of the time I want to deal with real people. Just not in this case.

My bank never tries to get me to use a machine. I wonder if that is unusual.

All the banks do it here …..in most branches where we used to have five or six cashiers there may be one or two if you are lucky……

I do all my bill paying and banking online, even, on the very rare occasions I get them, paying in cheques. It’s a good job as banks are closing their branches at such a rate. I do carry a bit of cash, just in case the systems are down and internet banking isn’t available. I’ve never paid-in cash, but if I had to, I’m not quite sure how I would do it? I know post offices provide some banking services, so that might be the route to take.

Many post offices have closed down now though haven’t they …..we have only one left and we have to drive to it. It’s not close enough to walk to, especially if I’m sending parcels. The closest one is in town, a couple of miles away, and again a drive is needed to get there.

Banks here are no longer user-friendly at all. They just want to get rid of you as soon as possible.

I do agree with that. In the branch I went to there are more staff standing around talking to each other than on the desk. They mainly send you to a machine, there is little customer care these days.

Cash and cheques are even more secure now as digital trade is being hammered by crime

I don't trust the machine either, sometimes the money gets stuck there and I usually pay my bills online.

Honestly, I'm not thrilled with the machines.
