1979 - Alien
According to Newsweek: "Alien will scare the peanuts right out of your M&Ms".
Alien is a science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott and based on a story by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett. The movie won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
The ship's computer, "Mother", picks up a transmission from a nearby planetoid and wakes the crew. who has been in stasis. Initially the transmission is interpreted as a distress call. Company policy dictates that the crew investigate transmissions indicating intelligent life. The crew sets off to investigate. In the meantime Mother partially interprets the transmission which Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) determines is a warning beacon and not a distress call.
The movie also stars Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto.
This movie is so well done as is the sequel, "Aliens". I rank it as a must-see.

Reminds me of a line they used about some unappealing food in an episode of Brothers:
"The last time I saw something like that, it was coming through John Hurt's chest."
Have you seen the "short version" meme, with a cat walking with the alien in its mouth?
(Oh, no, haven't seen this one, either.)

That must be a scary movie! But I believe it is worth watching. Will search for it.
