We'll Call it Chicken and Rice Slop

There are times when I think, 20 years ago when I met my wife, thank God she came with an iron stomach, because some of the things I make for dinner definitely require that.
Okay, truth be told, a lot of this "slop" stuff is actually really good eats. You just have to have a non-discerning palate and an open mind.
What I decided to make tonight is basically just a chicken and rice bake casserole. You can find a similar recipe in any "casserole" cookbook.
I browned some chicken and put it in a bowl. I made some rice and put that in the bowl. I put in some mixed vegetables and some black olives I had left over from something else we made. I added onions and red bell pepper. I threw in some oregano and Italian seasoning, a little garlic powder and some Red Lobster seasoning I got for a bargain at Ollie's a while back.
Then in went a can of cream of mushroom soup and a little bit of French onion dip I had left.
I will cook it for about an hour and add some shredded cheese on top to melt before we serve it.
I know it looks like a real slop, but I have done this so many time before, I just know this will be good. Trust me. It's better than it looks even if this picture is before the cheese.
How do you experiment in the kitchen, and what is the strangest dish you have ever made that actually was so darned delicious, you never thought it would be possible?
BTW, pictures appear to not be working again, I have notified admin and will post the picture as soon as it is fixed.

The strangest dish I ever came up with was deconstructed lasagna. Good eats.

@porwest It was quite good. I used rotini because I like that pasta and because it catches the sauce and cheese. I put all the browned meat, cheese and noodles in a baking pan, topped it with more cheese and put it in the oven. Good eats.

It's really just a very traditional meat and rice and bake casserole. Commonly you pick a meat, pick a cream soup, pick a dairy and pick a vegetable, put it all together and bake it. It's as common as apple pie. lol
I am surprised more people haven't heard of this.

@Traceyjayne It's not a thing you buy. It's a thing you make. If you have rice, cream soup, milk or cheese, and vegetables...
You have it there. lol
Also, for the record, casseroles were invented in Medieval Europe and were diet staples in Europe for hundreds of years...
And I would suspect still are. In any event. lol

I made braised pork and added clover. I ran out of brown sugar, so I used it as a substitute. It tasted really good!

I have a cook book that my husband received as a present 50 years ago. I still use it. It has a great Lasagna recipe. I can't think of something strange I have made.

That's what I like about chicken...it's so versatile you can make it a 100 different ways. I'm sure you and your wife enjoyed it.

It really is a universal meat. Pork can be like that too. As for this, it's really just a traditional meat and rice bake casserole. Nothing all that unusual or different about it. With these you generally pick a meat, pick a cream soup, pick a dairy, and then pick a vegetable and put it all together and bake it.

I was wondering why you didn’t upload a picture. Looking forward to seeing it.
Today for dinner, I sautéed some garlic and took it off the pan. Then I sautéd some string beans and took them off the pan. And then I sautéed some diced tomatoes and added dried oregano. When they were done I mixed everything together and that was my meal. Turned out pretty good. Never done this before.
