1975 - Jaws There are no ghosts, goblins or monsters in this thriller...just a white-toothed fury preceded by John William's brilliant score -- DA DUM DA DUM DA DUM DA DUM. Directed by Steven Speilberg and based on a book of the same name by Peter Penchley, this terrific movie won several awards for music and editing and was the highest grossing film in history until Star Wars came out two years later. The popular beach destination of Amity Island is turned upside down by a great white shark attack. There is much concern that closing the beaches would result in a huge loss of revenue for the area. So the beaches remain open. After another attack police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider), marine biologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and the owner of the boat, the Orca, Quint (Robert Shaw), head out to hunt the shark. This is a movie with great suspense and spine-tingling action. I highly recommend it. "We're going to need a bigger boat." Photo Credit: Pixabay

This is not one of the movie I liked more, but I enjoyed the Jaws ride at the Universals Studio in California.

Never saw it. We went to the “movie complex” in 1975…my parents saw it, and I saw Tommy.

Oh yes, I have seen that movie, and I was way too young when I did. I’m telling you, with no CGI, this movie is how you do special effects. The sharks looked so incredibly real.

@AliCanary It sure did. Compare that to the movie, “Deep Blue Sea where the shark was obviously CGI.

Apparently "Bruce", the shark robot, was very troublesome and broke down frequently. But it did look SO real!

Yes but they had SO much trouble with the shark. I'm surprised it came out so well.

I remember this film coming out when I was at school …..everyone was talking about it. I didn’t go and see it at the cinema and it’s obviously been on tv lots of times but I have seen clips but not the whole film ….not my sort of thing at all.

@LindaOHio to be honest if I had to pick I would probably go for an old film. I love the Doris Day / Rock Hudson films, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Spencer Tracy, James Cagney, Bette Davis. They had proper story lines. Today I would go for comedies. Maybe a horror ….

@Traceyjayne I like the Doris Day/Rock Hudson movies too. I like comedies, movies based on a true story, thrillers (not horror), etc.

This has always been on my list of favorites. I actually saw it in the theater (back in the day) and it was so scary on the big screen.

I was a little too young to see it in the movie theater when it came out, but I watched Jaws in high school on TV with my dad. Scary stuff!
