Ooh, it was a nice little drive today! I went across the river to Clark State Forest in southern Indiana, located near Henryville. That’s about 20 miles north of Louisville. You may know the name of the town as the locale of a terrible tornado in 2012.
The forest is the oldest state forest in Indiana, founded in 1903. It was founded because conservationists were afraid that the industries that required wood were going to strip the area of its trees.
No worries anymore. The forest sits on both sides of Interstate 65, encompassing 24,000 acres. There are also seven lakes in the forest…and a gun range. 
I was driving along the road and saw a sign that said, “Notice, gun range below, do not stand on embankment.” (And yes, a couple of people were down there, taking target practice.)
With everything that’s been weighing me down lately it was great to go out into the forest and enjoy the foliage. I need to do that more.

Me too! I have appointments the next two weeks, but they’re spaced out so I can go out for a day or two. Your photos and stories are great, you obviously had a wonderful time this trip!

@FourWalls We came home a bit early as the weather was supposed to be getting really hot. We're off again in a fortnight to a Country and Western weekend but it's in the south so shouldn't be so hot.

@FourWalls I'm sorry. I know the feeling. I'm still trying to get over my husband's passing. I sure miss him.
