It’s another case of repeating the acts from last month’s slower dancing songs. This time they’re gonna make you dance! Here’s another song that, while not as boogie-heavy as recent songs, will still get you moving. Turn to Stone - Electric Light Orchestra If you listen to that quick rap in the middle (“yes I’m turning to stone ‘cause you ain’t comin’ home”) you’ll understand why modern rap doesn’t impress old people. I mentioned last month that Jeff Lynne was the last member of the Traveling Wilburys to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If you look at the list of successful hits they had you’re probably wondering why, too. (Not to mention that “Hold On Tight” was used for coffee commercials!) I guess as long as they did make it. I’m still waiting for Neil Sedaka (which will probably happen three minutes after he dies ). Enough of the ranting. Just enjoy one of the many great hits from ELO in their golden era. Turn to Stone Written by Jeff Lynne Recorded by Electric Light Orchestra From Out of the Blue, 1978 Song used last month: “Strange Magic” In my blue world:

Yes hubby and I knew song and artist but the video brings up so many questions. 1. How did they all get their hair so big? 2. How many keyboards does the keyboard player need? 3. How much did satin material cost back then?

1. They were the Electric Light Orchestra, so their hairdos were by Reddy Kilowatt. 2. They were a seven piece band: three of which were the strings. That left three on “rock” instruments (guitar, bass, drums), and one person to provide the 42,000 sounds on the record when performing live. 3. About $1.95 a cubic mile, or the royalties from one airplay of “Can’t Get It Out of My Head.”

Every time I hear this song I get Dr. Who vibes. That happens when I listen to Blondie's "Call Me" too, but I will admit, Blondie's song is MORE Dr. Whoish than ELO's "Turn to Stone."

Tom Baker might approve. (Or you might not, depending on who “your Doctor” is. Baker is mine.)
