Well, things got frusterating.

I am surprised my post this morning even took. I couldn't get online for hours. Baring that, I've been on and off the phone with the doctor's office at advent. The doctor wants to get George's peg tube out, and now that we're talking dates times, and schedules.... George is not only confused but admits he's not really ready. He can't bring himself to eat or drink enough. And, he knows it.
He is upset at the idea that the doctor might want to put another tube in, and we can't answer that until the doctor sees George for himself. And, while I know he needs it out.... he's needed it replaced for over a year now, I don't want to loose my husband because doctors are getting impatient.
First I'm being told I need images, tests and blood work to clear him to do this safely, and now I'm being told this doctor wants to ignore all that and get the tube out. They were talking tomorrow, but he needs two days between me stopping his blood thinner and the procedure so Thuresday it is. I just don't think I can get George there that early.
And, George's so upset he doesn't want to talk to me or anything. I'm worried that if the tube can't stay out, I might just loose him in the next year or so. But, until he's ready to take that step, I'll fight to keep him alive.

Amazon was down earlier today. It is starting to come back when I checked it an hour ago.

I had a family member and a friend who both had a peg tube...I know that both of them had to get them replaced after one year. George has gone nearly two years, so he is lucky about that. At least he knows he isn't going to eat enough to do without it...I am sure he's upset. It's like a darn if you do, and darn if you don't--if he has to get the old one out, he doesn't want a new one, but he needs the tube to get enough nutrients. And if he gets it out and they don't put in another one, that could end badly, too. This is a hard time for you both, and I'm sorry.

He should've had it replaced back in September of last year. I've been using a blackened and kinked tube since then. I first noticed the discolorazation back in August of last year, but every appoitment's been... 't needs to come out, but we can't do it here.' Now we have a doctor who'd be happy to take it out tomorrow, but I have to pause his blood thinners for two days before and I'm tarrified. It's like surgery, and they'll be using general anathisia on him. And, while that normally wouldn't scare me, the fact we were told he needs bloodwork and clearances, and this doctor wants to skip those.... scares me.
And the scheduler didn't make me feel any better when she said we MIGHT have to come back to get a new tube put in. meaning he could be without one, and I could loose him or he could get seriously sick.
I know what you mean dam if you don't dam if you do. It's a loose-loose.
George can eat and drink, but the antibotic isn't making him want to, and he's been on the throne because of the dam meds.

@MarieCoyle Yeah. And, he's on my childhood nimisis of amoxicillin. I hated that as a kid, and I know he's starting to hate it, too. He doesn't want to really eat on it (though he did eat an ice cream sandwitch) and I have to hide it in yogert, but He's going to get seriously sick if I can't get more down him.
I am going to have to. And, yes. I know they won't let him drive. I never had that problem (I was I think 5) when I went under the knif.... so even if I could.... I wouldn't have been able to.
I'm hoping I'll get to meet the doctor performing this thing, because George can't write, even though he thinks he can. He refuses to pratice, so his writing looks like he's testing the pen. Often they'll have me sign because of it.
I know that they won't put him under to put a new tube in, unless the current stoma closes.
I'm more concerned about vomiting and asperatin risks because his esophgus is week on the left. I know when we vomit everything tenses and shakes. That can be bad for someone post-stroke. and I know that's a risk after going under and why they tell you to fast before any proceture that uses it.

You probably already know this, but if he has a general anesthesia, they will not allow him to drive home, so you will need to arrange for a driver...like I said, you no doubt know that already. They are no doubt concerned the tube is failing and needs to be changed, can you just insist if they are going to remove it they put another one in right then? You don't want him to go under anesthesia twice if you can help it.
Antibiotics are hard on the guts, I know.

I can see where having this tube out only to have another one put in would be confusing at the very least. The poor guy! Thursday, huh? That is soon. I hope this all goes okay. The rest is up to him I think.
