Another thing I didn't throw out!

I prefer ‘proper coffee’ over instant, and generally make it using a cafetiere/ French press. Sadly we went through a bit of a phase of breaking the glass and in general it’s cheaper to look for a second hand cafetiere in a charity shop than to buy the replacement glass, so as a result I have a couple of spare plungers and handles languishing in the cupboard. But then last week someone on Freegle offered the jug part of a cafetiere, having lost the plunger. I wasn’t able to get there until yesterday, but they still had it and when I got it home and tried one of the spare plungers, it was a perfect fit. So there’s another thing I kept for years that finally turned out to be useful! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

Also the glass of the one I had also broke, I did not replace it, I still prefer to use my Italian Moka or the espresso machine.

I had to get rid of my Moka pots because they were not compatible with the induction hob we now have; I did get a new steel espresso maker but we don't use it as often as the cafetiere.

@Fleura I had to replace my old Moka with one compatible with the induction hob I found in this apartment.

Sounds like it was worth keeping. It always feel good to find something useful and also get keep something from the trash.

As long as one has the space to keep things and it doesn't get too cluttered in one's abode, why not keep things that might be useful down the road?

Absolutely, lack of space in modern homes only promotes the 'throw-away society'.

That certainly was a lucky find for you and that the plunger you kept worked

Isn't it great when things work out so nicely? We are complete plebs and only like instant coffee.

Yes very satisfying! You know, at our age we can each stick to what we like
