Morning fog gave way to afternoon warm sunshine. Hubby and I have been puzzling how to fashion a simple metal growing box. It's not been an easy project. This afternoon was so sweet outside. I went out and bolted together a little section of the box. Chickadee birds called to each other while I was out there. I was surprised to see some blooms still alive and well. I picked an Aster's purple flower and some Toad Flax- I think that is what gardening buddy called it. Teeny purplish flowers on tall skinny stalks. It is growing in a tub that I was going to toss into the garbage but kept it for a growing box. I also picked up more rotting apples to toss into the compost bin.
The photo should show one of my first captures of our humble wooden steps. 125 year old wood. It might be old growth fir. I ran into photos of Sonny James kitty- magnificent fellow. I still cry when I run into those. He is a legend in our house.

It was cool and we had dark clouds all day, but no rain. The wind was crazy and made it seem much colder than it really was. I went out to the patio for a bit and it was just too windy to be outside, so I came back in.
We owned a home built in 1890 that we renovated, rewired, etc...we had steps very similar to those. We kept them as is, of course, just sanded and refinished them as ours really needed that, but those steps are made to last through several lifetimes.

@MarieCoyle Your renovations must have been exciting. I am fortunate. The rewiring was done before we bought the house. For sure the electricity is not perfect- things 'blow' from time to time but it has been redone. Newer windows, too.

@MarieCoyle I admire that you were able to renovate your house. No way are we able to do that. The plaster on some of the walls needs an expert but first, I have nobody like that and second, nothing is falling down and I can't afford such a huge expense.

We kept the style and the lines of the house, and tried to highlight the older features and not destroy them. Ended up replacing several rooms of hardwood floors that were just too worn out to save, we tried but it wasn't possible. We did put in a very nice, up-to-date kitchen, but the rest we tried to stay with the age of the home. The renovations took FOREVER because we did it all ourselves. A ton of work!

@LindaOhio Thank you. That is a comfort. We also say that our loved ones are now playing in "summer meadows."

@sallypup You're very welcome. If my dogs aren't waiting for me, I will be very disappointed!
