There’s a smell of decay and nostalgia floating in the night air here. Someone’s been burning the autumn leaves they’ve raked up in their garden and I’m loving it. Smells like this take me back to various times in my life, happy times, and tonight I’ve thrown wide the bedroom window to let in a goodly puff of cold, smoky air before my wife realises. What smells fill you with nostalgia?

Chloe perfume. It was the perfume my mother wore before she developed dementia. I can smell it a mile away, and I get an empty feeling when I do.

It is unbelievable how smells bring back memories. The smell of a soap, brings me back to the house of my grandmother and to the happy days I spent here as a young girl.
