Soka who is a male K9 dog that is employed in Kent County Michigan Sheriff's Office went missing on Sunday October 19 when he managed to get loose from his handler on their off day in Lake County.
The authorities used social media as well as many officers, drones, ATVs as mounted units to search for the dog.
Soka was located by a resident in the forest about 4.5 miles away from he went missing in a period of 24 hours.
The resident contacted the authorities to inform them about Soka being seen. The authorities were able to take Soka to an animal hospital where Soka was treated an injury after having a conflict with a porcupine.
The good is in good health and reunited with his handler on Monday.
I think what happened was that Soka might have seen another animal which attracted him to pursue the other animal and vanish into the forest.

That could very well be the reason he got into the forest. Seeing another animal. Dogs are curious. He better get back on the job.

Chasing another animal is one thing but perhaps the handler was not too nice to him and he ran away,

Most likely the handler of the dog was caught off guard during the walk.

Most likely Soka was chasing another animal while he was being walked by his handler.

A K9 dog, sounds like a dog owned by the Get Smart agent, 86, Maxwell Smart.
The Police trainers will have to retrain the dog to not chase after porcupines.

You are right that the police trainers will have to refrain the dog from messing with porcupines.
