I enjoy writing about strong women who have strived to make the world a better place in one wat or another. I like sharing that knowledge with others. It's important for women to have this truth as we don't have full control of some aspects of our lives and this helps with moral. At least for me it does. When I was about 10 and living in Pocatello, Idaho I used to cut out a comic from the newspaper each week. It was about Nellie Bly. She wrote for a newspaper, and this thrilled me even at such a young age. It wasn't until later when I got into writing and research that I learned more about her history. Nellie Bly was her pin name, and she was an investigative reporter. She was born in 1864, and her name was actually Elizabeth Jane Cochran. She is famous for pretending to be insane and being locked up in an insane asylum for 10 days. She endured beatings, rotten food and freezing baths. When she got out, she wrote an expose on asylum conditions. This helped to free 1,600 people from Blackwell Island in New York City. The picture is from artofit.org

That's so interesting. I had heard of her pin name but knew nothing about her. Thanks for sharing this.

I just watched a movie about her and her internment in the asylum. Fascinating.
