The students think that they are so slick

I teach high school. The students have always tried to cheat but it has now become a way of life for them post-COVID. When I write a quiz or test I always make several different versions of it. Same questions but I shuffle them around so one class can't take a picture of it and share it with other ones. I mean they can be sketchy and do it but it isn't going to help their friends in other classes because they are getting a different one. So I was grading my 8th period's cell quiz today and noticed that the students were only getting 1 or 2 questions correct out of 10. Coincidentally the letters that they put were pretty much the same as the correct answers for another class' version. When I was getting class going today I told them that I had graded the quizzes so they should take out their Chromebooks to check out how they did. There was a group of girls who absolutely bugged out when they saw their scores. I said "let me say that it is ABUNDANTLY clear who is in on the group chat and who is not. Heads up--I make multiple versions of quizzes and tests. Your friends are not helping you. I hope you have learned a valuable lesson." One girl asked if she could retake it and I was like "nope". You'd think I was a brand new teacher instead of a 24 year veteran.

Students nowadays like taking the wrong way not realizing that they are degrading their standard.

It saddens me that there's so much cheating going on. In my day it was a rarity.

It's really discouraging to think how rampant cheating is, but you know how to handle it.

Good for you! They deserve a bad grade for cheating.
